A programme of Garden Guardian events and activities during 2024
Online resources about attracting and caring for wildlife in your own garden or outside space.

Garden Guardians was conceived by Stroud Nature CIC and began life before the pandemic. It has always had support from the Town Council but was only after the pandemic that the project really gathered momentum, when Stroud Nature joined with Stroud Vallleys Project to look at potential funding.

This was secured in 2022 with a grant from the Heritage Lottery. Two Project Officers working with SVP developed a programme of events and activities throughout 2023 and 2024. These were key to the aims of the project, bringing people together in their own communities and at accessible public spaces to:

-
Promote the importance of gardens as a sanctuary for wildlife
-
Show that gardens are one vital habitat in a mosaic of urban green spaces
-
Show that the smallest garden can attract more wildlife if just a few things are put in place
-
Provide information and tips on flora and fauna
-
Encourage people to spend more time outdoors in their own spaces and other green spaces to derive the health and well-being benefits
The physical engagement of communities is being supported with online and printed resources, the responsibility of Footprint
